YIAGA Africa Promises to deploy high tech to monitor Kogi, Bayelsa Elections.

The Yiaga Africa has assured the people of kogi and Bayelsa states of its determination to deploy evidence based high technology to monitor the Saturday November 16, governorship elections.

The Executive Director of the Organisation Samson Itodo gave the assurance Wednesday in lokoja at a Watch the Vote ( WTV) roundtable for Journalists and Civil Society Organizations.

He said the Saturday elections is critical to the country, hence , all hands must be on deck to ensure that it is peaceful, even lamented the high rate of elections violence associated with the two states.

Itodo point out that the WTV objectives are to ensure citizens votes counts, by determining fraud and manipulation during the conduct of the election and collation of result.

He added that WTV will provide timely and accurate information about the election process to voters and stakeholders and will build citizens confidence in the election.

He said YIAGA Africa is most concerned with the process leading to the election hence, deployment of WTV will reduce election malpractices which will be a reflection of the outcome.

According to him, ” Elections across the globe is no longer talked in terms of free, fair and credible , but the integrity of the process , free environment for campaigns by the fielding parties,

” The INEC voters register, PVC collection and its integrity, transmission of results, the presence of security officials, the behaviour of party agents, Secrecy of the ballots and transparency of the counting process are all that matters in a modern conduct of elections.

” our WTV is the only one that can independently verify the accuracy of election day results as released by INEC . Accordingly every observer deployed sends the election results from the polling units as announced on election day.” He said.
