The Independent National Electoral Commission,(INEC), has said that a total of one Million, six Hundreds and fourty-six thousand, three hundred and fifty persons would be voting in the 2019 general elections in Kogi State.
Briefing journalists in Lokoja on Thursday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Kogi State, Prof James Apam, regretted that over two hundred Permanent Voter’s Cards are still uncollected.
According to him accreditation and voting would go on simultaneously in three thousand, five hundred and eight polling units /voting points in two hundred and thirty – nine registration areas across the state.
He said INEC would be requiring a total of fifteen thousand, four hundred and seventy-nine Adhoc personnel to man the polling units, while other categories of Staff ranging from supervisory presiding officers, collation and returning officers numbering five hundred and four – six would be recruited and trained for the exercise.
While noting that INEC is ready with necessary preparation for the elections, Apam confirmed that training of Adhoc staff has commenced, saying that preparation for the training of security agents is under way adding that the commission has already received some materials for the elections.

He said similar meetings has taken place between INEC and traditional rulers, women, saying that all these meetings was geared towards having a peaceful elections in 2019 in the state.
According to him, INEC is working towards a credible elections, noting that, it is the only way of building Peoples confidence in the system.
Speakers at the stakeholders meeting participants advised security agents to be more proactive in the prevention of violence before, during and after the elections.
They called on INEC and Security agents to be neutral, saying that is the only way the elections can be adjudged to be free, fair and credible.
Stakeholders were unanimous in their condemnation of the absence of key prayers in the political circle from the meeting and charged INEC to further engage them as they alleged that they are mostly the ones who are in the Center of the instigation of violence and other political vices.Share this on WhatsApp
