The Kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has called on Nigerians to play by the rules, before, during and after the 2023 general election, assuring that the present hardship will soon be a thing of the past.
The Governor who was speaking during a symposium organized in his honour, by the Kogi state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), to showcase his achievements, said this is the time to come together as a people to properly reposition the nation towards greater prosperity.
He stressed the need for the peaceful conduct of the election, noting that Nigeria’s future is very bright despite its current challenges, which he said are surmountable.
While describing media as partners in progress with government, Governor Bello promised that he will continue to maintain a robust relationship with working journalists in State.
Speaking earlier, the president of NUJ chief Chris Isiguzo, had called on journalists to engage in peace build reportage to ensure a successful 2023 general election.
While noting that Nigeria is already very tensed, he warned that stakeholders, including journalists, must avoid utterances and reports that could escalate the problem, but should rather encourage a peaceful transition by being objective and trustworthy in their reports.
“If your report is not going to help to deepen democracy in Nigeria, leave it. You must trying to protect the peaceful coexistence of the country at all times in your report. Nigeria is the only country that we can call our own, we must therefore not destroy it. Isiguzo stressed
Earlier, Kogi State NUJ Chairman, Comr. Adeiza Momohjimoh, said the symposium is geared towards looking at the areas the Gov. Bello’s administration has done well, called for all hands to be on deck in ensuring peaceful coexistence.
