Bassa Movement For Good Governance, BMGG, has called on the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello to kindly consider the people of Bassa local government Area, by conceding the Deputy Governorship slot to Bassa people in kogi East.
The Cordinator of the group, Mallarm Isa Yakubu who address a press conference in Ayingba, Dekina said a Bassa indigene should be considered for the deputy governorship position in the state.
BMGG told newsmen on Friday that he does not believe that only Igala people should continue to produce Governor and Deputy governor of the state without considering the minority tribes.
He further said since the creation of Kogi state in 1991, only Igala people have been elected governor and Deputy Governor , while Bassaland was not considered.
He noted that Igala people are presently occupying National Assembly seats in the nine local government Areas.” It’s only Bassa that is lacking behind in terms of elective and appointive positions at federal levels”.
He stressed that the APC and Kogi State Government need to consider a Bassa person for the position of Deputy Governor on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC in 2023.
“The state government should consider us, because our people in Bassa are very ready to massively support Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo as Bassa people have taken him as Kogi Project that must be actualized, he said.
Yakubu further said their brothers and sisters in kogi East (Igala people) who are the majority in our district must remember that they will not continue to produce the Deputy Governor of the state ignoring other minority tribes.’’
He explained that the other tribes need to be given the opportunity to occupy the position in the spirit of fairness and equity.
According to Yakubu: “This time around we believe that we will be considered as we therefore call on the Executive Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello to kindly consider our APC leader in Bassa local government Area, Dr. Tim Nda Diche.
Similarly, another Bassa indigenous group, Bassa Youth Movement For Development, BYMD, has also joined in the call on the All Progressives Congress, APC and the Executive Governor of Kogi State to consider Bassa people for the Deputy Governorship Slot to our popular candidate, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo.
The president of BYMD, Abdulazeez Inusa said Bassa people are aware that the Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello is know to be leading the cause of minorities in kogi state adding that they believe he will do it for the minority, he said.
“So, I do not believe that Kogi east will continue having Igala governors and Deputy Governor and be ignoring the minorities which is Bassa”.
“If tomorrow an Igala man wants a position at the national level and they asked, back at home with other minority tribes, how have you treated them?
“So, we plead and call on the governor to please consider Bassa this time for the Deputy Governorship slot in APC, I think Bassa people should be given an opportunity to serve in that capacity and our APC leader, Dr. Tim Nda Diche be considered”,he pleaded.
