Stallion Times on Wednesday organized a one day training for journalists in Kogi state, on investigative journalism.
The training titled, ‘investigative journalism’ Get involved, Dialogue and Improve Project- GDRIP, is to equip journalists with key skills and techniques used in investigative reporting.
According to the project Coordinator, Isiyaku Ahmed, the training is also to teach participants on how to write a good pitch for investigative report.
In addition, it’s to teach participants how to gather data and present evidence to expose rights abuses, corruption or incident.
In a goodwill message, the Chairman of the Kogi state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Momohjimoh Adeiza, commended Stallion Times and MacArthur Foundation for organizing the training.
He noted that the training over time, has increase the knowledge of Journalists in the state on investigative reporting.
He called on participants to pay attention to the lectures and ensure adequate reporting of the event.
In a lecture delivered by Idris Muhammed, on data driven and presentation in investigative reports, he listed the characteristics of investigative journalism to include; a well developed reporting skills, broad general knowledge and good research skills.
Others are; determination and patience, fairness, balance and strong ethics, courage, clarity of presentation.
In addition, an investigative journalist must be able to list and prioritize concern, analyse concern and list source of the story among others.
