People with disabilities task organisations to erect ramps in offices.

The Chairman of kogi state community and Advocacy Group For People With Disabilities Inclusion, Hon. Mathew Ochada has called on Banks and other offices in kogi state to construct a wheelchair ramp to enable the people with disability have easy access.

Ochada stated on Tuesday, when the group paid a courtesy visit to the chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists,NUJ, Kogi state council, Comrade Adeiza MomohJimoh.

The Group chairman said the offices need to create a wheelchair ramps in all offices and all public accommodations.

He noted that access to public areas and commercial activities such as that facilitated by ramps helps to ensure that individuals with disabilities remain as healthy as possible both physically and mentally.

“Without the access provided by ramps, for example, the risk of depression is much higher.

” The same way I saved money in Banks as person with disability, is same way other able body man save money in same bank, why not construct wheelchair ramp for us”,he asked.

Earlier, the chairman of the people with disability Ibrahim Daniel Arome also call on all the public and commercial places to
carve out space for the wheelchairs ramp for people with disability in the state.

He further said ” I’d like them to quickly make it possible for people in wheelchairs to be able to confidently enter banks and offices without needing anybody’s help,”he urged.

In his own remarks, the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), kogi state council, Comrade MomohJimoh Adeiza, while welcoming the group to NUJ, agreed that a wheelchair ramp is urgently needed to be constructed in all Banks, government offices and commercial places, saying that the union will call on architect and builders to construct a wheelchair ramp in NUJ secretariat.

According to him, ”I will immediately call our Architect and builders to quickly swung into action by putting a wheelchair ramp in our office, we shall do it to serve as example to all offices and commercial places in the state”,he said.

The NUJ Chairman also promised that his members, (journalists) will help to create the awareness to the public, especially to commercial places in kogi state.

” There aren’t words enough to express my feelings for the people with disabilities, this will also help those without disability especially the aged and sick persons,”he stressed.
