The senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Patrick Moro, PhD, on Friday received All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Benue South Chapter, in his National Assembly office.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Moro’s media adviser, Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John.
The leader of the delegation and Deputy Chairman, Benue State AFAN, Peter Adekpe, in his address said the visit was to formally notify the senator of the group’s existence and activities in Benue South, and to seek areas of collaboration.
He said Senator Moro, as the father of Zone C, should know about them and to also give them directions and ideas that would be beneficial to the group and farmers in Zone C at large.
He said the awareness about AFAN and its activities in the senatorial district was low, stating that the visit was part of their efforts to create the necessary awareness and solicit support for the group.
In his response, the Senate Minority Leader commended the group for their goal and objectives. He said he appreciated every effort towards farming, stating that farming remains the main thing in the country due to non-availability of white-collar jobs and the fact that farming has become very lucrative.
The senator hinted that he recently shared two truckloads of fertilizers to Benue South farmers and also just concluded a one-week training for over 200 Zone C youths in Agricultural Value Chain, and empowered them with seed money.
He said he would continue to empower farmers and encourage farming in his senatorial district, and enjoined the group to intensify efforts aimed at mobilizing more people for farming.
He stated that the visit had opened avenue for partnership with the group and urged them to form cooperatives for empowerment of genuine farmers.
The delegation comprised the Deputy Chairman, Benue State AFAN, and the Local Government Coordinators from Zone C.
