—Students protests frequency of killing of their colleagues by articulated vehicles

Six students of the Federal University Lokoja and a driver on Monday afternoon were said to have lost their lives as articulated vehicle rammed into FUL shuttle bus conveying themtschool at Felele bus stop, Lokoja.
An eye witnessed account said the accident occured at about 3pm on Monday, he further disclosed to our correspondent that six students including the driver of the FUL shuttle bus lost their lives during the accident.
According to the source, the articulated vehicle was carrying woods and hundred of Jerry can of palm oil heading to Abuja axis, saying , unfortunately, the drive lost control due to break failure and rammed into the FUL shuttle bus already filled up with students and was about to convey them to school.
The FUL shuttle bus was crushed by the articulated vehicle as motorists and passengers travelling along the high way were stranded.
However, officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission were on hand to rescued some victims that were trapped under the articulated vehicle.
The State Sector Commandant of the FRSC, Mr. Samuel Oyedeji who led his team to the scene of the accident disclosed to newsmen that he can’t give the actual numbers of those that lost their lives.
He however disclosed that those that were injured have been moved to Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja and Kogi State Specialist Hospital also in Lokoja for further treatment, while bodies have been deposited in the Morgue of the hospitals for identification.
Meanwhile, students of the institution later that evening, took to the highway in Felele area of Lokoja, scene of the accident, to protest the incessant killing of their students by articulated vehicles.
In January this year, a female student of the University was also killed by an articulated vehicles.
