The International President of the Standup For Women Society, Barr. Deborah. Ijadele-Adetona has called on government at all levels, corporate organizations and individuals to accelerate action towards achieving gender equality and equity in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer (NPRO), Lib. Billie Nwogu, who is also the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo on Media , noted that despite the advancements made to ensure gender equality and empowerment of women and girls, they have continued to face unprecedented threats worldwide,
According to her, these infractions were noticeable from growing discrimination to weaker legal protections and reduced funding for programmes that support women and therefore called on government and corporate bodies to improve their support for women NGOs.
Speaking further she said “As we celebrate International Women’s Day today, The Standup for Women Society honours the remarkable progress made by the federal and state governments towards gender equality, but more needs to be done to actualize the drum for equity
“while acknowledging the significant improvement in Nigeria, especially the appointment of women into some sensitive quarters, the SWS calls for total support for women to be elected in elective positions

“The urgency of this moment cannot be overstated and in solidarity with women and girls everywhere, the SWS reaffirms its commitment to protecting women’s rights, promoting empowerment, and ensuring equal opportunities.
They recognize that gender equity is not only a fundamental human right but also a cornerstone of sustainable development, peace, and prosperity.
“The Standup For Women Society (SWS) seeks for the Protection of Women’s Rights and called on governments, civil society organizations, and individuals to safeguard women’s rights, particularly in the face of growing backlash and discrimination.
She called Empowerment of Women and Girl, saying that the society must invest in education, healthcare, and economic empowerment programmes that enable women and girls to reach their full potential.
Others he said includes “Preventing Violence Against Women: We urge governments to adopt and implement legislation to end violence against women and girls, in all its forms.
“Promoting Women’s Leadership: We must work towards achieving full and equal decision-making power for women, including through temporary special measures like gender quotas.
“Bold policy changes to ensure equal pay, equal representation, and equal opportunities for women and girls.
“Increased investment in programs and initiatives that support women’s empowerment, education, and health.
“And as we move forward, we draw inspiration from the countless women and girls who are leading the charge for change. ” Barr. Deborah added.
The SWS seeks Corporations to adopt inclusive practices, provide equal opportunities, and support women’s empowerment.
