Dear Resilient and Esteemed People of Ebiraland and Ajaokuta federal constituency,
I greet you with warmth, respect, and an unshakable commitment to the well-being of our land and our people. Today, I write to you not only to reflect on a journey we embarked on together but also to celebrate a significant victory—one that reaffirms our unity, our strength, and the power of our collective resolve.
THE CHALLENGE: AJAOKUTA AND THE PROPOSED OKURA STATE
On the 22nd of July, 2024, I addressed you through a press release regarding a matter of great concern—the proposed creation of Okura State, which, at the time, sought to include Ajaokuta within its boundaries, carving it away from Kogi State. I understood the apprehensions and fears that many of you had, and as your representative, I took a firm stand against any decision that would compromise the integrity, heritage, and future of our people.
State creation is not a matter to be taken lightly; it requires extensive consultations, legal processes, and, above all, the will of the people it affects. Recognizing this, I took decisive steps to ensure that our voices were heard loud and clear. On the floor of the National Assembly, I stood against the bill, making it clear that the inclusion of Ajaokuta in the proposed Okura State was inappropriate and against the interests of my constituents.
To further reassure you, I released a public statement, accompanied by a video, categorically stating that Ajaokuta belongs where it has always been—within Kogi State. I emphasized that no unilateral decision could be made without due process, and I urged you all to remain calm while we navigated this critical issue together.
THE OUTCOME: AJAOKUTA REMAINS IN KOGI STATE
Now, eight months later, we have received the resubmission of the request memorandum for the creation of Okura State. But this time, something has changed—Ajaokuta has been removed from the proposed Okura State, ensuring that it remains where it rightfully belongs. This is not just a mere administrative adjustment; it is a testament to the strength of our collective voice and the unwavering commitment we have to the future of our land.
This is a victory—a victory for democracy, for due process, and for the unbreakable spirit of the Ebira people. It proves that when we stand together, we can shape the destiny of our people and protect the legacy of our forebears.
A MESSAGE OF GRATITUDE AND REASSURANCE
I want to express my profound appreciation to the leadership of the House of Representatives, a chamber that upholds the principles of democracy, inclusivity, and justice. The House stands for fairness, equity, and the protection of every Nigerian’s right to be heard and represented. It is within this great institution that critical matters affecting our people are deliberated with diligence and objectivity.
In particular, I extend my gratitude to Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, who graciously allowed my voice to be heard. His leadership has fostered an environment where even the youngest parliamentarians can contribute meaningfully to national discourse.
I also deeply appreciate my senior colleagues, especially Rt. Hon. Halims Abdullahi, the Deputy Leader of the House, who saw the wisdom in my position and supported the voices of young lawmakers like myself on this critical matter. Their commitment to democratic principles and mentorship within the House has strengthened my resolve to continue serving with diligence and responsibility.
I pledge to continually channel my requests through the approved legislative channels and to uphold the rules of the House, ensuring that every stand I take aligns with the principles of due process and parliamentary order. No matter my position on an issue, I will always act in consonance with the rules that guide our legislative duties.
Once again, I thank the Speaker and the entire leadership of the House for yielding me the floor and for ensuring that the concerns of my constituents were addressed with the seriousness they deserve.
To my constituents, I extend my deepest gratitude. Thank you for believing in me, for trusting me to be your voice, and for standing resolute in the face of uncertainty. This victory is ours, and it belongs to every son and daughter of Ebira who believes in justice, fairness, and the unyielding power of unity.
Let this serve as a reminder that as long as I have the privilege of representing you, I will not be silent. I will continue to stand for what is right and oppose what does not serve our collective progress. Your voices will always be heard—whether in the halls of governance, in policy decisions, or in matters that shape the future of our beloved land.
We will not only defend what is rightfully ours but also seek greater advancements, opportunities, and prosperity for our people. Our journey does not end here. There is still work to be done, and I remain steadfast in ensuring that every step we take leads us toward growth, development, and a future that we can all be proud of.
