Start-Rite Schools once again opened its gates, not just for students but for the fathers who shape them, hosting a memorable Father’s Day celebration themed The Hero Within. It was a day that blended meaningful conversations with spirited competition, reminding everyone that true heroes wear no capes but leave lasting footprints in the hearts of their children.
The morning began with light aerobics, a chance for fathers to mingle and take a few group photos before heading to the pitch and court. Soon, the action took over. Fathers, ready in their sports gear, competed in soccer, table tennis, and lawn tennis, showing that while time may add grey hairs, it does little to slow down passion for the game.
The highlight on the soccer pitch was the surprise introduction of the Principal, Mr. Femi Akinlade. Coming on as a “super-sub”, he had the crowd cheering with his deft moves, clever passes, and a flair that left many wondering if he had once considered a career in professional football.
After the matches, the focus turned to a discussion on the role fathers play in children’s growth and the school community. Fathers spoke candidly about their experiences, their hopes, and the silent lessons they pass on daily. They also shared their perspectives regarding raising children in the 21st Century, reinforcing that a father’s presence is not just about provision, but guidance, encouragement, and steadfast love.
The Chairman of the Advisory Board, Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba OFR, CON, SAN, brought the day’s reflections full circle. In a stirring address, he spoke passionately about the indispensable role fathers play, not only as protectors and providers but as models of integrity and resilience for their children to emulate.
Adding to the camaraderie, Mr. Idam, a dedicated parent-representative and the self-appointed manager of the fathers’ football team, expressed appreciation to Start-Rite for organising an event that brought fathers together in such an uplifting way. He assured the school of the parents’ continued support and good-naturedly vowed to return with an even stronger team next time.
