The Chairman of National Economic Council (NEC) Adhoc Committee on the National Electrification Strategy and Implementation Plan (NESIP), Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, has said that energy transition will enhance economic growth, promote industrialization and improve energy security.
The governor stated this in a Facebook post he did after he presided over a routine meeting of the NESIP held at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) Secretariat in Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The governor, who has in the last two years worked tirelessly to transform and reposition Cross River State for economic prosperity in the last two years, said he will ensure that the Committee delivers in the national assignment given to it.
Otu, popularly known as Sweet Prince, said in his post: “As Chairman of the NEC Adhoc Committee on the National Electricity Strategy & Implementation Plan (NESIP), I had the privilege of presiding over our routine committee meeting today at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum Secretariat in Abuja.
“Our discussions remain focused on one goal, delivering stable, accessible, and sustainable electricity to all Nigerians.
The energy transition is not just a national priority. It is a pathway to economic growth, industrialization, and improved quality of life.
“I remain committed to working with my colleagues and stakeholders across the country to ensure that this vision becomes reality.
“Nigeria must be powered, and we are determined to make it happen.”
The Cross River helmsman was appointed Chairman of the committee during the 146th meeting of the NEC held in November last year at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The setting up of the committee and Otu’s appointment as the Chairman was described as a welcome development, and viewed by pundits and stakeholders as a significant step towards checkmating the critical challenges confronting Nigeria’s electricity sector.
The committee was constituted to work towards deepening states’ engagements so as to fast-track the implementation of sustainable solutions under the Electricity Reform Act 2023 and the National Electrification Strategy and Implementation Plan.
