Ododo’s wife promises collaboration with NDLA in fight against drug Abuse, trafficking in Kogi

The wife of the Governor of Kogi State, Hajia Sefinat Ododo, has promised to work in Senergy with the National Drug Law enforcement Agency in It’s fight against drug abuse and trafficking in the state

She noted that the State Government is already making arrangements for the establishment of a rehabilitation center to cater for drug addicts in the state.

Hajia Sefinat Ododo disclosed this while addressing journalists on the sideline of activities to mark the 2026 World International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Lokoja.

The wife of the Governor who was represented by the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mrs Comfort Ojoma Nwuchola Egwaba, said the State Government in conjunction with the State National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, are already in collaboration to achieve the establishment of the center.

She noted that her NGO, Ohunene Empowerment Initiative have been carrying out a lot of enlightenment and sensitization across the three senatorial districts of the state, to deter youths from engaging in drug and Illicit abuse.

She called on all stakeholders to join hands with the NDLEA, Ohunene Empowerment Initiative, and all parents to achieve a drug free society.

Earlier, the State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Umar Mustapha Yahuza said the Agency recently destroyed over twenty tons of Illicit drugs seized and has counseled several drug dependants as well as rehabilitated some addicts brought to the Command.

He said one of the activities to mark the day was a road work across the State Capital by the NDLEA and other Sister Agencies to also commemorate the Day.

While speaking on the this year’s theme of the commemoration “The Evidence is clear: Invest in Prevention”, the commander commended the state government and the wife of the governor for partnering with the agency in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.

“Must commended the Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for supporting the agency the fight to eliminate drug abuse in the state. I must also thank the wife of the governor for partnering with the agency in it’s fight against illicit drugs particularly through her NGO, The Ohunene Empowerment Initiative.

The Commander appealed to the State Government to speed up work on the provision of rehabilitation centers for drug addicts as well as the need for youths to stay away from consumption of Illicit drugs

The coordinator of the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative, Mrs. Karimat Abdullahi Muisudeen, called on all stakeholders to join hands in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in the state.

She promised the continued support of the Initiative to the NDLEA and other agencies in the fight against drug consumption and trafficking in the state.
