Expressing his excitement, the Chairman of FUOYE’s Sports Committee, Professor Olusegun Adeyemi, who also doubles as Dean Faculty of Agriculture commended the University Management for its unwavering support.
He describes Taofikat’s qualification as a significant milestone, one that would reinforce FUOYE’s rising profile in the global sports community.
Prof Adeyemi said: “I want to sincerely thank the FUOYE management, especially our visionary Vice-Chancellor for his continuous and passionate support for sports.
“Their sponsorship of the FISU trials held earlier this year at UNIJOS played a crucial role in helping us get to this level. I am confident that Taofikat will represent FUOYE and Nigeria with excellence and pride.”
The 2025 edition of the games is being jointly hosted by five German cities; Bochum, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen, and Mülheim — in the Rhine-Ruhr region.
Over 234 activities will unfold across 18 sporting events, blending top-tier athletics with vibrant cultural showcases, academic exchange and international collaboration.
This marks the second time Germany is hosting the global sporting fiesta, the first being in Duisburg in 1989.
The Rhine-Ruhr region is hailed for its deep-rooted sporting culture and boasts the highest concentration of sports clubs and universities in Europe, offering an ideal setting for this international gathering of student-athletes.
Back home, FUOYE continues to make strides in sports beyond students’ participation.
At the recently concluded Nigerian Universities Staff Sports Association (NUSSA) Games, staff athletes from the university bagged two silver medals in the darts category, further underlining FUOYE’s formidable commitment to excellence in sports.
As the countdown to the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 Games begins, Sulaimon Taofikat Morenikeji stands tall as a symbol of inspiration, excellence and determination.
Her journey embodies the rising star that FUOYE is becoming; a university steadily etching its name on the map of global academic and sporting distinction.
