The legislator representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, Rep. Bassey Akiba, has extended his warmest greetings to the people of his constituency and Nigerians in general on the occasion of the country’s 65th Independence Day celebration.

Sixty-five years ago, Nigeria succeeded in freeing itself from the clutches of colonialism in the hands of the British colonialists through the struggles of the country’s great nationalists.

In a statement issued by Rep Akiba, a grassroots politician and astute parliamentarian, he commended Nigerians for their resilience and steadfastness in the past 65 years that the country has operated as an independent nation, fully administering its own affairs.

The Deputy Chairman House Committee on Healthcare Services said in his statement: “Today, our beloved Nigeria stands at 65 years of independence, a testament to resilience, a journey of trials and triumphs.

“Sixty-five years ago, the chains of colonial rule were broken, and a new dawn rose across our land.

“Though the journey has been thorny, our spirit has never been broken. We have stumbled, yet we rise. We have bent, yet we never bow.

“As your representative, I pledge to stand shoulder to shoulder with you, driving development and progress.

“May this 65th Independence Anniversary inspire us to dream anew, to rise above despair, and to rekindle in every heart the courage to believe again in Nigeria.

“Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!

“May our flag forever fly in glory, and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
