The parliamentarian representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency in the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly, Rep Bassey Akiba, has saluted the girl child as the observe the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child.
Rep Akiba, who is the Deputy Chairman House Committee on Healthcare Services, in a statement issued to celebrate the girl child said:
“Today, we stand in solidarity with the global community to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child 2025.
“Every girl child is a story of hope, resilience, and limitless potential. When she is educated, our families flourish; when she is protected, our communities are strengthened; and when she is empowered, our nation is transformed.
“Yet, too many of our daughters still face obstacles such as child marriage, gender-based violence, discrimination, and limited access to education and healthcare.
“This year’s theme, ‘The Girl I am, the Change l Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,’ focuses on celebrating girls’ empowerment, highlighting their leadership, and addressing the barriers they face globally.
“This occasion is a solemn reminder of our duty to ensure that every girl child has the right to dream, the space to thrive, and the opportunity to lead.
“We must reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding the rights of every girl child, expanding access to quality education, ending harmful practices, and creating pathways for girls to participate fully in leadership, innovation, and nation-building.
