The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina has officially resumed duty after a six-month research and accumulated leave.
Addressing the University community during a brief ceremony held on campus, Prof. Fasina expressed profound gratitude to God for grace, health, and the gift of continuity in service to the great institution.
In his welcome address, titled “Peace – Sine Qua Non for University Development,” the VC appreciated the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Olubunmi S. Shittu, for his leadership during his absence. He also extended warm appreciation to the Principal Officers — Professor Bolanle T. Opoola (DVC, Administration), Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole (DVC, SPRIL), Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim (Registrar), Professor Isaac Busayo (University Librarian), and Dr. Adebolanle Debo-Ajagunna (Bursar) — as well as the Deans, Directors, Senate, and members of Congregation for their steadfastness and dedication to keeping the University stable and productive.
Professor Fasina emphasized that his time away served as a valuable period of reflection and learning. He noted that every institution experiences tests of resilience and values, and urged members of the FUOYE community to embrace peace and collective commitment as the foundation for sustained excellence.
“It is better to learn from experience than to keep repeating the same mistakes,” he remarked, encouraging all staff to “reflect deeply, forgive freely, and move forward with renewed wisdom and purpose.”
Reiterating his administration’s dedication to the continued progress of FUOYE, the VC highlighted key priorities for the weeks ahead, particularly the next round of programme accreditation, which he described as a critical task in repositioning the University as one of Nigeria’s foremost institutions.
He called on all staff, from Deans and Heads of Departments to non-teaching staff — to give their utmost in ensuring 100% success. “There is much to be done within a short period, and all hands must be on deck,” he urged.
Addressing staff welfare, Professor Fasina announced that the long-awaited Relocation Allowance would be paid, reaffirming his administration’s promise to honour its financial obligations responsibly. He also noted major ongoing projects, including the completion of the Senate Building, affirming that he would not hand over any unfinished projects to his successor. “This administration must finish strong,” he declared.
Professor Fasina also extended special appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa; Chairman of Governing Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba and other esteemed members of Council; Senate and Congregation for their steadfast support of his administration.
Concluding his remarks, Professor Fasina called for unity, focus, and resilience among staff and students. “Together, we shall continue to work diligently until the last day of this tenure. Let us remain united, steadfast, and focused. Remember always, God wins!”
