… Describes Sahara Reporters claim of brewing leadership crisis as false
The management of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has insisted that the process for the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor (VC) that will take over from the outgoing VC, Professor Sunday Abayomi Fasina, come February 2026, was going on smoothly and transparently devoid of chaos under the superintendence of Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of the highly rated institution of higher learning.
This was contained in a post on the FUOYE website written to refute Sahara Reporters story where it said that the outgoing VC, Professor Fasina was working to install his preferred candidate as VC with the connivance of the Pro-Chancellor, Ndoma-Egba, a highly respected political figure in the country and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
The FUOYE management described the report as false noting that Ndoma-Ndoma, a former Senate Leader well-known as a great man of honour and high integrity with an unblemished record in public service, has ensured a smooth and transparent process for the selection of a new VC for FUOYE.
The post on FUOYE website reads: “The management of Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, Nigeria has debunked a claim by a purveyor of lies –Sahara Reporters that a leadership crisis was brewing in FUOYE, describing the claim as another lies from the pit of hell.
“Besides, it described as another fabrication by Sahara Reporters that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina was working ‘behind the scenes’ with the highly revered Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of the institution, Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba to endorse a particular candidate for the post of new Vice-Chancellor, saying such fabricated claim was far from the truth.
“Instead, Council being led by Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba was working very hard to ensure a seamless transition from the university Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fasina to a new Vice-Chancellor, who would take over the mantle of leadership come February 2026.
“The management said that the Pro-Chancellor, who with a track record of administrative governance would not be a party to any leadership crisis aimed at truncating seamless transition already in place for the selection of a new Vice-Chancellor, insisting that the Sahara Reporters which had not seen anything good in FUOYE would not cease from spreading lies against the university.
“Also, the management said that the Council had not favoured any of its over 100 applicants for the post of a new Vice-Chancellor as it was set for a meritorious selection process for the new Vice-Chancellor of the university.
“It specifically cautioned the public and the university community to discountenance lies being peddled by Sahara Reporters, saying that there was a plot in the making to alter the selection process already in place for the new Vice-Chancellor.
“On Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, the university management insisted that at no time was the Vice-Chancellor suspended as it was clear that he went on his accumulated research leave which expired on October 14 when he resumed office contrary to Sahara Reporters’ penchant claim of suspension.
“The race for the office of Vice-Chancellor which began in August when advertisement was placed for prospective candidates to apply, would at the end birth a merited and most qualified candidate as there was no attempt to install loyal successor as being erroneously peddled by Sahara Reporters.
“There was no iota of truth in the Sahara Reporters’ claim that ‘suspended FUOYE Vice-Chancellor, Fasina Plots with Council Chairman Ndoma-Egba to install ‘loyal’ successor.’
“Apparently relying on fake sources to always give its story credibility, Sahara Reporters has again goofed when it circulated its penchant for lies that ‘Fasina, in alliance with the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN), is plotting to install his preferred candidate, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, to maintain control over the university’s finances and shield ongoing corruption schemes from scrutiny.’
“This, the management said was nothing but a figment of lies by the Sahara Reporters as there was no plot anywhere to install Prof Joshua Ogunwole contrary to laid down principles guarding appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor for the university.
“As a matter of fact, the management said if Prof. Joshua Ogunwole emerged victorious in the selection process, he would not be denied of the coveted office of the Vice-Chancellor simply because Sahara Reporters had blown the news out of proportion.
“It, however, said it believed in the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba’s leadership of ensuring a peaceful transition with strict compliance with guidelines and procedures for selecting the new Vice-Chancellor for the university contrary to lies by Sahara Reporters that ‘the suspended Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, is working behind the scenes to influence the appointment of his successor.”
