Cross River State Governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, has called on Christians to stay strong in their faith and remain committed to helping their communities.
According to a report posted on the Facebook page of Mr. Andrea Ekeng Inyang, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor on New Media, Otu made the call at the Salvation Army One-Day Zonal Congress for Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, held at Ibom Hall, Uyo.
The event, themed “Deepening Our Faith, Expanding Our Impact,” brought together the Senate President, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, church leaders, and thousands of Salvation Army members.
Governor Otu, represented by his Special Adviser on General Duties, Barrister Ekpenyong Akiba, praised the Salvation Army for over 90 years of service in the region.
He acknowledged their work through schools, clinics, vocational centres, and churches, describing the organization as a force for both spiritual growth and community development.
Speaking on the theme, Governor Otu noted that many misleading teachings are spreading today, and Christians must understand their faith well to stand firm in the truth.
He encouraged members to continue following the Salvation Army’s example by helping the less privileged and supporting community upliftment.
During the congress, Governor Otu was also honoured with two awards at the same venue, The Salvation Army’s “People-Centric Governor Award,” in recognition of his leadership style that focuses on the welfare and progress of the people of Cross River State, and an Honour Award presented to him by his alma mater’s old students association, Salvation Army Secondary School Old Students Association (SASSOSA), celebrating him as an alumnus whose leadership journey inspires young people.
Both awards highlighted his people-focused approach to governance and his impact on communities across the state.
The congress ended with renewed energy among members, as the Salvation Army reaffirmed its mission to strengthen faith and expand humanitarian work in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States.
