In the wake of presidential order for the withdrawal of Security Personnel from political office holders, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria with its numerical strength of nearly 2 million officers and men, has the capacity to bridge the gap in providing VIP Protection for political leaders and senior government officials in Nigeria and beyond.
The National Chairman and Commandant General of Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Navy Capt. Abubakar Umar-Bakori, made this statement, signed and made available to Media men in Abuja by the Commander, Human Resources, Dr. Austin Akubo.
With its adequately trained personnel by the security agencies with further training, the VGN is set to establish a specialized squad within the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) dedicated to providing high-level security services to Very Important Persons (VIPs), including government officials, business leaders, and other dignitaries.
“As the VGN continues to grow and expand its operations, there is a need to provide specialized security services to VIPs who require enhanced protection. This proposal outlines the establishment of a VIP Protection Squad to provide secure and professional security services to these individuals” Dr. Bakori enplaned.
The statement read in part that the Scope of Work of the VGN-VIP Protection Squad, when established shall include the provision of close protection to VIPs, including transportation, escort, and static guarding services, Conduct advance security surveys and risk assessments for VIP visits and events; Coordinate with other security agencies to ensure seamless security operations as well as Provide security advice and recommendations to VIPs on matters of security
Further explaining the Structure and Composition
the VIP Protection Squad, it is noted that it will be headed by the a senior officer with specialized training in close protection.
According to the statement, the squad will consist of trained and vetted officers with expertise in close protection, surveillance, and security operations and be equipped with necessary equipment, including vehicles, communication devices, and security gear
The Commandant-General, a retired Navy Captain, and Ambassador of Peace, Dr. AB Umar Bakori, noted after the ongoing Police Training of Officers and Men across the country, in Community Policing, Intelligence Gathering and Equipment handling, the Squad members shall also be made to undergo specialized training in close protection, surveillance, and security operations and will be equipped with necessary equipment, including vehicles, communication devices, and security gear
Dr. Bakori, who recently clamoured for inclusion of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria as part of Nigeria’s National Security Architecture, having been trained by the Police, Army and DSS said the proposed VGN VIP PROTECTION SQUAD, shall bring about enhanced security services for VIPs, increased professionalism and expertise in close protection; improved coordination with other security agencies including the enhanced reputation of the VGN as a provider of high-level security services.
