MOVING KOGI TO THE NEXT LEVEL: THE IMPERATIVE OF HON. JIMOH MUSA OMIATA AS SPEAKER OF THE 7TH KOGI STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY.

712

AN OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY, GOVERNOR YAHAYA ADOZA BELLO*

Your Excellency Sir,

We write on behalf of the good people of Yagba Federal Constituency for two cogent reasons:
i. To appreciate your continued patronage of Yagba as a people, as a Federal Constituency within the larger Okun Community of Kogi State.

ii. To act Oliver Twist by asking for more as we earnestly request that Your Excellency will facilitate and galvanize support for our son, Hon Jimoh Musa Omiata to be voted as Speaker in the 7th KGHA.

To the discerning mind, the impact of your activities on the grassroots is unprecedented and we in Yagba have recognized this and are out to say a big thank you to Your Excellency, sir. We appreciate the numerous youth empowerment programmes that have taken a good number of our youths off the streets; the agricultural support activities that have increased the yield and earning capacities of our rural farmers.

The job opportunities for the not too educated in Vigilante work and the middle level educated youths in forestry and environment; the medical officers employed across the state; the legal officers as well as the recruited revenue officers have reduced the unemployment levels in the state to a considerable level. This assertion is buttressed by the unemployment figures recently released by the NBS where the total net number of employed persons in Kogi state (full time and part-time/underemployed) increased by 136,400 persons within Q3 of 2017 and Q3 of 2018, while the unemployment rate reduced from of 20.65% to 19.7% during the same period. The cumulative effect of these employment schemes and the heavy investment of your administration in security equipments and personnel have reflected positively on the internal security situation of the state. Today, Kogi has become a reference state when discussing how to tackle insecurity.

On our request for your support for the candidacy of Hon Jimoh Musa Omiata as Speaker, we, as a people are convinced beyond any reasonable doubt that Hon Omiata has the correct mix of character, credibility, integrity and grassroots appeal that will project the party positively and enhance the aspiration of His Excellency as we gradually move towards the governorship election.

We are of the considered opinion that the incumbent who is also agitation to return as Speaker did very little to enhance the fortunes of the party in his LGA talk less of the entire Kogi West and the State as a whole. His reign was bogged with megalomaniac allusions and self centeredness. His reach was limited, and he was unable to create the needed aura around the office of Speaker. Our snap tests reveal that his approval rating is abysmally low among the people as well as among his colleagues in the House. Therefore, for a more pragmatic Assembly, it is imperative someone that can bring in fresh ideas and who will command the respect of colleagues be supported for this exalted position.

Finally we wish to assure Your Excellency that the Yagba people are united in agitation for this position and are equally united at ensuring your victory come November, 2019.
