A coalition of forty-five registered political parties in kogi state on Wednesday endorsed the second term governorship ambition of the incumbent governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC),
Addressing a press conference at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), in Lokoja, the leader of the coalition, Alhaji Sani Teidi, said that they have come together to work for the victory of the Governor, because of his efforts at developing and uniting the various ethnic groups in the state.
He maintained that the second term ambition of the governor is guaranteed under the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
Speaking further, Teidi said, “the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) provides for a tenure of two 4-year terms for State Governors. The second term is not automatic, and should only be considered in deserving circumstances and especially where there are cogent reasons for same.
“we have objectively analysed all the parties and candidates which are contesting for the 2019 Kogi State Gubernatorial Elections on November 16 and have objectively determined that Governor Yahaya Bella is head and shoulders above the rest.
He noted that Yahaya Bello’s quest for a second term in office is not out of place, saying that the parties consider his first term successful enough to justify his quest for a second term.
While noting that in addition to the effective governance which Governor Yahaya BeIIo has provided Kogi State in the various indices of development, Teidi ascerted that without doubt, the Governor has done the most in the state’s history to eliminate ethnic, religious and class differences among the people.
“we are living witnesses to Governor Yahaya Bello‘s tireless efforts throughout his current term to achieve unity for the state through deliberate policies of inclusion and proportional distribution of appointments and projects amongst all constituencies in Kogi State.
“”we are also minded to help in the actualisation of the
Governor’s quest for a second term bearing in mind that same will ensure equity for the central senatorial district of the state
The chairman appealed to all political parties to bind themseives to respect the rule of law by playing according to the rules before, during and
after the elections.
The group also appealed to Governor Yahaya Bello to see the endorsement as a call to provide even more transformational leadership to the state rather than a victory over the opposition.
Teidi called on all citizens to consider the overall best interests of the State as paramount, and prioritise same above all other sentiments.
Responding, Governor Bello commended the parties for endorsing him for a second term in office, saying that he will not disappoint them.
The Governor who was represented by the deputy governorship candidate of the APC and his immediate Chief of staff , Chief Edward Onoja, assured that he will give more attention to even development of the state.
He appealed to the parties to be law abiding before, during and after the election, noting that he considered the unity of the people of the state above every other consideration.Share this on WhatsApp
