—— gets backing off 44 PDP senators
Ahead of the formal inauguration of the 9th today, Senator Ali Ndume May spring some surprises, by emerging as the Senate president against the choice of his party, the All progress Congress,(APC) and the presidency.
The leadership of the APC had earlier tipped Senator Ahmad Lawan as its preferred candidate, this however did not go down well with Ndume and some other senators who felt that the national Assembly must be allowed to choose their leadership without any external interference.
Majority of senators across party line may also have been angered by the decision of the party to endorsed senator Ovie Omo- Agege for the position of the deputy Senate president.
Omo- Agege was alleged to have led the thuggs who invaded the 8th Senate and made away with the maze , this was considered a discretion of the Senate.
Senator Dino Melaye has described that day as a day of sadness in the Senate.
“My day of sadness, weeping was the day my own colleague, Ovie Omo-Agege, led dissidents, thugs to desecrate the chamber of the Nigerian Senate. It was the day he led criminals to move the symbol of authority out of the sacred chamber of the Senate”
Majority of the returning senators seems not to have forgotten this day, picking Omo-agege was considered as mistake on the part of the APC.
Meanwhile Enduringnews gathered that Ali Ndume, arrived at the premises of the federal parliament at about 7:20 am for the business of the day.
He exchanged pleasantries with some people on arrival and went straight to the mosque within the premises to pray.
Also the Senator-elect for Imo West district, Rochas Okorocha also entered into the National Assembly premises and was seen entering into the annex office of the Senate President at about 7:45am.
It was not clear yet whether he was on invitation or whether he had been cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission to take part in the inauguration.
