The Vice Chancellor (VC) of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has described the Award of Excellence recently conferred on the institution’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council, Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, by the Cross River State Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), as well-deserved.

The FUOYE VC, who has been on a six-month accumulated leave and preparing to resume next week, October 14, 2025, made the remarks in a statement he issued to congratulate the Pro-Chancellor for the prestigious award conferred on him by NUJ, the body made up of members of the fourth estate of the realm.
The award of excellence was said to have been bestowed on Ndoma-Egba, a former Senate Leader and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), in acknowledgement of his noteworthy contributions to NUJ’s growth and development in Cross River State, as well as his remarkable achievements as a renowned and cerebral lawyer who has made his mark in the legal profession.
Fasina, an astute professor of soil science, noted that the ex-Chairman Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Chairman Advisory Board of Start-Rite Schools, one of the leading citadels of learning in Abuja, has contributed enormously to the growth of humanity, democratic sustenance, societal development, and advancement of the law profession in Nigeria.
“I congratulate our highly respected Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council, Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, OFR, CON, for the conferment of the prestigious Award of Excellence on him by the Cross River State Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), in recognition of his support to the growth of NUJ in the state, distinguished career as a legal pundit, and the significant role he has played in the sustenance of democratic governance and nation-building.
“It is unarguably a well-deserved honour for a man who has from a young age held various positions at the state and national levels, demonstrating sterling leadership qualities and living up to expectations at all times.
“At FUOYE, we have within about ten months of his assumption of office as the university’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council, benefited greatly from his leadership acumen and huge wealth of experience. He has supported the management with wonderful ideas and come up with strategies to ensure the sustainability of the giant strides and exponential growth we have recorded in FUOYE, fourteen years after it was established.
“I must say that FUOYE is indeed lucky to have Ndoma-Egba, an unassuming, open-minded and proactive leader as its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council. The way he administers the affairs of the Council speaks to his capacity to lead. Since he assumed the leadership of the Council, he has successfully resolved numerous issues, promoting peace and harmony within the university community.
“The decision by the Cross River NUJ to honour him with an award of excellence is absolutely in order. Ndoma-Egba, a gentleman politician and silent achiever, truly deserves such an honour from an important body of media professionals like the NUJ.”
