Governor Hyacinth Alia’s prudent management of resources and openness in governance have been acknowledged by various monitoring organisations whose specialty is consistent assessment of the states of the federation’s fiscal transparency.
One such organisation is BudgIT, a civic organisation that uses creative technology to simplify public information, stimulating a community of active citizens and enabling their right to demand accountability, institutional reforms, efficient service delivery and an equitable society.
In its current release of Q3 2024 States Fiscal Transparency League Table, Benue has moved to 9th position from the 35 & 36 positions it had consistently shuffled since 2015.
Additionally, a recent release by Debt Management Office (DMO) indicates that the external debt profile of the Benue State Government has experienced a sharp decrease of $2.82 million (N4,532,038,130.40) between June 2023 and June 2024, under the supervision of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, as the Governor.
The report indicates that Benue has not borrowed any funds since the inception of the Alia administration; instead, it has paid $2.82 million (N4,532,038,130.40) to reduce the state’s debt burden.
Recall that having inherited over 350 billion in debts from the previous administration, the Alia administration has been cautious about taking loans, despite initiating numerous projects across the state, with many already completed.
Governor Alia is changing the narrative for good governance and massively delivering dividends of democracy to the people.
He is consistent in insisting that the future of the state comes first, and has demonstrated the highest level of decision making and resources management.
