New INEC Chairman Promises Free, Fair, credible Elections.

The newly sworn in Chairman of the independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan has promised to deliver free fair and credible elections that will reflect the will of Nigerians and give priority to staff welfare.

He stated this in a meeting with senior officials of the Commission where he also took over the leadership of the Commission from the acting INEC Chairman, Mrs May Agbamuche Mbu

Professor Amupitan urged the staff to work as a team for them to always achieve their set objectives.

He said that a conducive working environment would be provided for the staff as more would be expected from them.

“The integrity of our elections is not something we should even negotiate.It is the soul of democracy.” he stated.

Amupitan said that the forthcoming Governorship election in Anambra State was a critical test of the Commission’s commitment towards a credible polls.

Earlier, the Acting Chairman, Mrs May Agbamuche – Mbu expressed optimism that Professor Amupitan would improve on the strong institutional foundation of the electoral body.

While presenting the hand over note to the new chairman, She congratulated Professor Amupitan and promised that the staff would support him.

The event was attended by the wife and children of the new INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan, senior staff of the University of Jos and senior officials of INEC.

Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan,a legal luminary is the sixth substantive Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
