— reaffirms commitment to the Nigeria Project
The senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Moro PhD, on Thursday, 23rd October, 2025 reaffirmed his commitment to the task of building an egalitarian Nigeria that works for all Nigerians. Senator Moro was addressing wives of senators, led by Her Excellency, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, who came to condole him and his family over the tragic deaths of his son and grandson.
The senator said he was overwhelmed by the show of love and support for him and his family in their moment of grief. He acknowledged the massive love shown to him by his colleagues in the senate and said he didn’t wish to be in any better community than the 10th Senate, being led by H.E., Senator Godswill Akpabio GCON.
His words; “Thank you so sincerely for this show of support and love. It’s a very rare and unprecedented occurrence to lose two family members in the space of 24 hours but I believe God is aware of where we are today and I give Him all thanks.
“I’m humbled by your presence here. I wish this visit was for something other than death, but we can’t question God.
“On Tuesday, the entire senate was here. In this moment of my life, I won’t wish to be in any better community than in the 10th Senate. This love, support and solidarity is overwhelming and unprecedented. This moment has rekindled my hope, my determination and my desire to continue to work with my colleagues and all well-meaning Nigerians to build the country of our dream.
“I have received sympathisers from different political parties and I have no choice than to recommit myself to working with my colleagues and all stakeholders to build Nigeria that will benefit our children yet unborn.
“I want to assure you that we have resolved not to be broken, but to move on. Because of my family and countless Nigerians who are looking up to us, we will be strong for them.
“Thank you so much for coming,” he stated.
Earlier, Mrs Akpabio said they, the senators’ wives, were saddened by the deaths of the two boys. She said the pains of losing a child could be much and urged Senator Moro and his wife to be consoled.
“We are so saddened by what happened. We are here to condole you and to pray that what happened does not happen again in this family.
“The pain is much, having lost a child and grandson. Don’t think God has forsaken you, He’s still with your family and will take away this agony. Be strong and hand everything to God Almighty. He will keep, protect and cover all of you.”
She assured the bereaved family of their prayers and support throughout this hurting period.
Other prominent Nigerians, groups and institutions were on ground to condole Senator Moro and his family on Thursday.
In their separate condolence messages, Ecobank Nigeria Limited, Major General E.G. Ode (Rtd), Dr. Dickson A.O. Akoh, United Idoma Pastors Fellowship, NASS Idoma Forum, Staff of NCAA, Grandeur women, Federal Complaints Commission, Coalition of Abba Moro Support Groups from Igede, and Bishop David Agada Ministries expressed deep sympathy to Senator Moro and his family over what they described as an “unimaginable tragedy.”
They expressed their deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.
The outpouring of sympathy continued as friends, political leaders, and associates expressed solidarity with Senator Moro. The Chairman, Catholic Diocesan Priests Association, Otukpo Chapter, Fr. Samuel Akpala, said they came to identify with Senator Moro and his family over the tragic incidents.
“It’s very hard to lose two children at the same time. The mammoth crowd trooping in to see you is because of your impacts and contributions to societal growth. Be strong. Our prayer is that this double tragedy will turn to double blessings.
“May God give you the strength to overcome this difficult times so that you can continue to work for your people, especially the completion of the Otukpo-Obi-Oju road,” Fr. Samuel stated.
Senator Moro thanked everyone for coming to sympathize with him. He commended the Coalition and Catholic Diocesan Priests Association, Otukpo Chapter, that came from Benue to sympathize with him.
“Coming all the way from Benue to come and see me is something I cherish greatly and will continue to partner with you for the good of our people. I will be strong for myself, family and and all of you.
“I want to thank the Reverend Fathers from Zone C for taking time out to visit the family. The family, at the moment, requires a lot of prayers. I have always enjoyed your fellowship in all my journeys. I thank you so sincerely. I require the grace of God to be able to navigate through this moment and my political journey.
“Your presence means so much to the family. On the Otukpo-Obi-Oju road, I made repeated visits to the Ministry of Works in the past and nothing fruitful was coming out of our discussions, so I decided to start the road with my constituency allowance. I’m determined to do that road and I will do it.
“The challenge I have is release of fund. We have not received any fund for that road so far. Whatever contractors have done on it is from their pockets.
“Have me in your prayers, for God to give me the enablement to do the job. I don’t have the choice than to do the road and I will do it”, he assured.
Other dignitaries who came to condole the senator included APC senatorial candidate in the 2023 general elections, Comr. Daniel Onjeh; Senator Benson Konbowei Friday; Amb (Dr) Princess Bolanre Ogundiran; The Chief Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission, Bashir Abubakar; and several political associates too numerous to mention.
