As part of his efforts to ensure that his bill on power rotation and request for creation of Apa State receive the necessary attention, the senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Moro PhD on Friday interrupted his mourning holiday and left for Lagos to attend a two-day joint retreat of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Constitution Review.
The retreat is marking a crucial stage in the constitutional amendment process. The joint committees is considering 69 bills, including Senator Moro’s Power Rotation Bill, which aims to ensure rotation of power amongst geopolitical zones for presidency, senatorial districts for governorship, and federal constituencies for senatorial position; Independent Candidacy Bill, and 55 state creation requests, including request for creation of Apa State submitted by the senator.
The Lagos exercise is designed to allow clause-by-clause scrutiny of all proposed amendments to ensure credibility, inclusiveness, and transparency, hence Senator Moro’s insistence on attending despite his current mood.
The retreat is expected to end on Saturday and the senator will return to Abuja to continue to receive sympathizers over his losses.
