The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Mineral Exploitation, Security, and Money Laundering, Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem, has stressed the need for collective efforts by Government and stakeholders in the industry to safeguard Nigeria’s natural resources and ensure they are channeled toward national development.
The Committee chairman stated in his opening speech during the meeting of the Committee members recently.
Giving insight on the major highlights of the meeting, Hon. Abdulraheem said “We discussed the need to strengthen regulatory oversight, partner closely with security agencies, and enhance financial monitoring systems to detect and prevent illegal flows of funds tied to mineral activities.
According to him, the committee remain committed to producing actionable, people-focused recommendations that will support the vision of a secure and well-regulated mining industry.
He commend all members present for their insights and contributions, saying that they looked forward to implementing the resolutions discussed in the coming days.
“As Chairman of the Committee on Mineral Exploitation, Security, and Money Laundering, I presided over today’s strategic meeting where members gathered to deliberate on practical approaches to tackling the urgent issues of illegal mining activities, rising insecurity around mining sites, and the laundering of illicit proceeds from mineral exploitation.
“In my opening remarks, I reiterated our collective responsibility to safeguard Nigeria’s natural resources and ensure they are channeled toward national development. We discussed the need to strengthen regulatory oversight, partner closely with security agencies, and enhance financial monitoring systems to detect and prevent illegal flows of funds tied to mineral activities.
“I also emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement, from federal agencies to host communities; to promote transparency, accountability, and shared ownership in the process of reforming the sector.
“The committee remains committed to producing actionable, people-focused recommendations that will support the vision of a secure and well-regulated mining industry.
