The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences Enugu, Prof John Emaimo, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his proactive efforts in ensuring tertiary education is accessible and affordable through the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) initiative.

His commendation came as the university began the disbursement of NELFUND for the 2024/2025 school fees to beneficiary students at FUAHSE. NELFUND, a Nigerian Government initiative aimed at providing student loans for tertiary education, has been instrumental in making higher education more financially feasible for students across the country.

Speaking during the disbursement event on Wednesday, Prof Emaimo emphasized that the Federal Government’s education policy is a significant step towards relieving parents of the financial burden associated with tuition fees. He highlighted the inclusivity of NELFUND, stating that unlike scholarship schemes which may be selective, NELFUND is available to all eligible Nigerian students.

Encouraging the students receiving NELFUND support, Prof Emaimo stressed the importance of financial management and responsible use of the funds. He also noted that students who had already paid their school fees would be reimbursed with the value of the government payment, emphasizing the government’s commitment to making education more accessible to all.

Dr. Chris Igbokwe, the Registrar of the University, reiterated the significance of NELFUND in providing educational opportunities to students, regardless of their financial background. He encouraged more students to apply for NELFUND assistance in the future to further enhance access to education.

During the disbursement process, Mrs. Felicia Egbeh, the university’s Bursar, confirmed the receipt of funds from the Federal Government and instructed students to collect their reimbursement clearance from the Bursary Office. She advised students to utilize the funds wisely for their educational needs.

Appreciating the Federal Government for the seamless disbursement process, the Students Union President, Comrade Ugwuoti Marius Ikechukwu, highlighted the impact of NELFUND in relieving parents from the burden of school fees. He also recognized the additional educational support funds recently distributed by the government directly to students.

The disbursement event was attended by university officials, including the Deputy Vice Chancellor, University Librarian, Dean of Students Affairs, and the University’s Public Relations Officer.
