The First Lady of the Nation and National Coordinator, Renewed Hope Initiative, Senator Oluremi Tinubu CON, has empowered two hundred and fifty (250) elderly citizens with funds worth two hundred thousand naira (N200,000) each to celebrate the festive season.
The program, which held under the elderly support scheme of the social investment program organised by the Renewed Hope Initiative had the theme, Total wellness; Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous Lifestyle, was hosted at the office premises of the First Lady of Cross River State, Calabar.
Speaking on the elderly support scheme, Senator Tinubu, represented by the Wife of the Governor of Cross River State, Bishop Dr (Mrs) Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, highlighted the import of the program.
“This program is designed to support the welfare of our elderly citizens annually.
250 elderly citizens, 65 years and above in all 36 states and the FCT, veterans from defence and police officers association will be benefitting from this scheme.”
Intimating the group of an increment in the amount of funds this year, she added, “the governing board of the Renewed Hope Initiative has decided to increase the grant from one hundred thousand naira (N100,000) to two hundred thousand naira (N200,000) this year to provide further support to our elderly citizens this festive season. In addition to this, free medical checkups and other sundry items will be provided.”
Felicitating the beneficiaries, she urged them to prioritise their health. “I congratulate all our senior citizens who have been selected as beneficiaries. I urge you to prioritise your health even as we all enjoy and celebrate in the festive season.”
Beneficiaries were treated to meals, drinks, and good music.
Highlight was the disbursement of the funds, bags of rice, and beans to selected beneficiaries as well as the distribution of walking aides, crutches, adult pampas, white canes etc.
