The parliamentarian representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency, Rep. Bassey Akiba, has said that the endorsement of Governor Bassey Edet Otu for a second term by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expanded Caucus in Cross River State, was a welcome development.

Rep Akiba, the Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Healthcare Services, a vibrant lawmaker believed to be doing his constituency proud in the Green Chamber, described the decision of the Cross River APC to endorse Otu for another term after the expiration of his first tenure in 2027 as a bold affirmation and acknowledgement of the governor’s focussed leadership and outstanding feats since assumption of office.

According to The Bridge Media report, Rep Akiba, in a statement, said “The unanimous endorsement by the party’s leadership reflects the confidence and satisfaction of Cross Riverians in the transformative strides of Governor Otu, particularly in infrastructure development, economic revitalization, social welfare, and human capacity development.”

The federal legislator was quoted as saying that “Governor Bassey Otu has redefined governance in Cross River State through a people-centered, visionary, and results-driven approach. His ‘People First’ agenda has brought hope, renewed trust, and tangible progress to our state. The APC Expanded Caucus’ endorsement is not only well-deserved but a clear testament to his unwavering commitment to the good of our people.”

The report indicated that “Rep. Akiba further commended the unity of purpose displayed by leaders of the party across the state, stressing that such cohesion is crucial for consolidating on the gains of the current administration and deepening democratic dividends across the 18 local government areas.

“He reaffirmed his total support for Governor Bassey Otu and called on stakeholders, party faithful, and citizens to continue to rally behind the Governor as he charts a bold and inclusive path for a greater Cross River.”

The lawmaker concluded that “Together, we will build on the solid foundation already laid and deliver the future our people deserve.”
