…Promises full implementation
Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has assented to the law just passed by the Kogi State House of Assembly restricting movement of heavy-duty vehicles in Lokoja Metropolis during the day.
Also assented to was a law to provide for the Climate Change (Establishment) Law and other matters connected thereto, 2025; a law to amend the Kogi State Commodity Exchange Export Promotion and Market Development Agency Law, 2024; and a law Establishing the Kogi State Bureau of Lands and other matters connected thereto, 2025.
Also assented to is a law to repeal the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency Law, 2005 and Enact the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency Law, 2025; a law to amend the Kogi State Oil Producing Area Development Commission Law, 2023; and a law to repeal the Local Government Electoral Law, 2004 and enact Kogi State Local Government Electoral Law, 2025.
Earlier before the signing ceremony, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf said the presentation of the passed bills was in consonance with the provision of Section 100 Subsection 3 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999) as amended.
He applauded the Governor for the decision of his administration to come up with the laws and used the occasion to stress that Kogi is getting its first legally established Bureau for Land, a thing that he said, is long overdue.
The Speaker further expressed gratitude to the Governor for his progressive vision and said the people of Lokoja, particularly those residing in Felele area of the state capital would now eave a sigh of relief as the Law restricting movement of heavy-duty vehicles demonstrates the commitment of government to the safety of its citizens.
“We (as legislators) have been getting plaudits from our constituents since the passage of the law and I must say they are happy that finally something drastic has been done to curtail the unfortunate, but regular, incidents of road accidents that keep claiming lives of our citizens, especially students of higher institutions plying that road,” the speaker noted.
On his part, Governor Ododo said his government is committed to the safety of lives and property because he is about the people.
He called on well meaning individuals and entrepreneurs to invest their money in the state through the creation of parks where restricted heavy-duty vehicles could rest before continuing their journey.
The members representing Ajaokuta State Constituency, Hon Jibril Abu and the one representing Lokoja I, Hon Bin-Ebaiya Shehu Tijjani were also present at the signing ceremony. They were flanked by the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Ahmed Chogudo.
The Member Representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem, the Secretary to the Government of the State, Mrs Folashade Arike Ayoade; the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Muizudeen Abdullahi, SAN; and the State Commissioner for Local Government, Hon Momodu Deedat Ozigi, were all present at the ceremony.
