Abductors of Kogi council chairman demands N100m ransom


—- As government assures of his safe release, says it’s working to ensure that Kogi remain the safest state in Nigeria.

The abductors of the Yagba West Local government chairman in Kogi State, Mr. Pius Kolawole are demanding a ransom of N100 million for his release.

Kolawole was abducted Saturday night, shortly after Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, while Hon. Adebayo, a commissioner with the state pension board, died on the spot as a result of gun wounds he sustained during the unfortunate incident.

The abductors were said to have called one of the family members of the chairman on Sunday night to state their demands.

The kidnappers were also said to have promised to called back by 10:00am on Monday morning to continue with the negotiation.

The source who would not want his name in print, said the kidnappers had also contacted the Kogi State Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Mr. Taofik Isah who doubled as the chairman of Ijumu council area.

It was further gathered that the family, council area and ALGON had now aggreed that only the ALGON Chairman should continue with the negotiation with the kidnappers.

Kolawole was kidnapped on Saturday evening on his way from Ilorin, Kwara state capital to his home town of Egbe, the border town between Kogi and Kwara state.

The attack claimed the life of the State Commissioner in the Kogi State Pension Board, Mr. Solomon Adebayo popularly called Akeweje who was in the same vehicle with the chairman.

However, the kidnappers did not touch the four years old son of late Akeweje who was in the vehicle at the time of attack.

While the police Orderly to the chairman escaped unhurt, the driver of the vehicle was badly wounded and shot at by the abductors and only regain consciousness the second day at the Egbe Hospital.

The news of the confirmation of the council chairman in the hands of his abductors has elicited joy as many of the governor’s appointee had taken to the social media singing song of joy.

Meanwhile, the Police Relations Officer, (PPRO),, of kogi police command, DSP William Ayah, while confirming the abduction of the council chairman on Sunday, assured that the command had lunched an investigation into the matter, saying that the perpatrators would be arrested and made to face the law.

However the Kogi State Government has assured the family of abducted chairman of Yagba West local government council, Hon. Pius Kolawole of its commitment to ensure the release of the Council Chairman.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, in Lokoja on Monday, the state government assured citizens of its avowed commitment to make Kogi the safest state in the country.
