ActionAid Nigeria in collaboration with Participation Initiative for Behavioural Change in Development, (PIBCID), has carried out training of Men and women and other stakeholders as gender base violence champions in selected communities in Adavi and Igalamela Odolu LocL Government Areas of Kogi State.
Speaking during the engagements, the Executive Director of PIBCID, Halima Oyiza Sadiq, said the engagements were geared towards creating awareness among community leaders, youth leaders, women leaders, local government vice chairpersons and desk officers and emphasized the need for collective effort among stakeholders to prevent and respond to GBV issues in their communities across the respectively LGAs
She noted that the training content includes the definition of GBV, causes, types, impact, mitigation and case management Suport services for survivals.
She said the training was carried out in 13 Communities in the two Local Government areas.
She stressed that participants capacities have been built with relevant skills to prevent and respond to GBV issues.
According to the ED, Community mitigation and response plan was also jointly developed by key stakeholders.
The engagement of key
stakeholders at LGA level will equally help to initiate policies and laws on GBV prevention and mitigation.
She noted that Action points and commitments from participants to effectively utilise the knowledge gain was achieved.
She stated further that notable achievements was the engagement of men, women, community leaders, religious leaders and youth leaders as GBV champions to take the lead in the fight against gender base violence.
The communities where the training held in Adavi LGA, are; Osisi, Osara, Osaragada and Aku, while the communities in Igalamela includes; Okpakpata, Ugbedomagwu, ofuloko, Aya, Apata, Ihiame, Ogboba, Ajordan and Ujagba.
Stakeholders in attendance from Adavi includes the vice chairperson Adavi LGA, Hon. Mariam Oyereyi Hamzat, the Gender desk Officer of the LGA, Abdulmumuni Mariam among others.
From Igalamela/Odolu, the Vice chairperson, Hon. Musa Aishat, the chief of staff LGA chairman, Emmanuel Idachaba, were among the participants.
Other participants drawn from the communities include, women leaders, youth leaders, religious leaders, community leaders and other members of the community.
The training was organized by ActionAid Nigeria in partnership with Participation Initiative for Behavioural Change in Development, (PIBCID), funded by ActionAid local right programs (LRP).
