Arming of youths to rig election,  Responsible for high rate of Kidnapping, Armed Robbery in Kogi, says Kogi Ex-Gov Olafemi .

The former Acting governor of Kogi State, Chief Clarence Olafemi has said that the  arming of youths  by some desperate politicians with fire arms and other dangerous weapons to rig election was responsible for the high rate of kidnapping and armed robbery currently being experienced in the State.

 

Olafemi in his Easter message to Nigerians, maintained the cases of kidnapping and armed robbery became more prevalent immediately after the Presidential, National and state Assembly elections in the state.

 

While stressing that something has to be done urgently to stem the tide,  the Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), noted that those criminals were armed by some group of people, politicians and individuals to rig the election in their favour and were abandoned after the election with no sustainable means of survival.

He pointed out that it was unfortunate that after the election, those youths armed with weapons now resulted in kidnapping and armed robbery in other to meet up with their needs.

 

“Armed robbery and kidnapping have been on the increase on daily basis. The guns given to the youths by the politicians are now being used to commit crime.

 

” Election in a democratic setting must be free, fair and credible. Elections are no longer reflect popular votes, politicians have bastardized the system.

 

” Elections with intimidation and use of arms against the people, all these are very disastrous to our democratic growths,” he said.

He therefore called on the security agents in the state to wade in and make sure that those in possession of illegal firearms in the state are arrested and made to face the full wrath of the Law.

 

He lamented that if the situation is not arrested now, the November 2 governorship election will be bloody in Kogi State.

 

Chief Olafemi called on all stakeholders in the state to work together and bring peace back to the state.

 

He enjoined Nigerians to live in peace and harmony, saying that the leaders must be ready to make sacrifice as was the case with Jesus Christ who he said sacrificed himself for mankind .

He was optimistic that Nigeria will be great again if the needed leadership is provide to harness the rich human and material resources of the nation for the benefit of all.
