President Muhammadu Buhar has ordered AIG  Adamu Mohammed MNI to take over from Ibrahim Idris in an Acting capacity ,. This may have put to rest days of agitation for the replacement of the police who has reached retirement age

 

With the appointment of AIG Adamu, all serving Deputy Inspector Generals of, (DIGs), may be prematurely retired.

 

Recalled that police were allegedly planning to stage a protest across the country starting from 15th of this month if the presidency fails to ease out Idris..

 

The outgoing IGP was said to have  earlier met President Buhari on friday shortly after the Jumma’at prayer at the State House mosque.

It was  gathered that IGP Idris, 59, was due for retirement after attaining the mandatory 35 years in service, but serious apprehension that his tenure may be extended by President Muhammadu Buhari.

 

Speaking recently, the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed had said that the president has the powers to extend the tenure of the IGP, siting others whose tenures were extended in the past by previous, heads of government in the country.

 

No doubt IGP Idris would go down in his as one of the most controversial IGP in the history of Nigeria as country.
