Former Nigeria civilian President, Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari is dead.
Shagari reportedly died at the Abuja National hospital after a brief illness at the age of 93 years .
His death was announced in a tweet made by his grandson, Bello Shagari, this evening.
According him: “I regret announcing the death of my grandfather, H.E Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died right now after a brief illness at the National Hospital, Abuja.”
Shagari served as President of Nigeria’s Second Republic between 1979–1983, after the handover of power by General Olusegun Obasanjo’s military government.
He was later overthrown in a coup by General Muhammadu Buhari, in December, 1983
Late President Shagari has to his credit so many developmental projects, among which is the conceptualization and construction of the Ajaokuta Steel complex, Delta Steel Company, Alhaji, Katsina Steel Rolling Mill, Oshogbo Steel Rolling Mill and Jos Steel Rolling Mill.
