The Cross River State Executive Council (EXCO) has granted approval for the Rollout of ten thousand Solar Home System (SHS) in the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
The approval, according to a release by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Dr. Erasmus Raja Ekpang, was part of the resolutions of the 8th meeting of Cross River State EXCO for the year 2024, held on Wednesday, September 11, at the Council of Chiefs Chambers, Calabar.
According to the release, “The 8th Meeting of the Cross River State Executive Council for 2024 was presided over by the State Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon Peter Agbe Odey, who stood in for His Excellency, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, Governor of Cross River State and attended by Honourable Commissioners as well as other Members of the State Executive Council. In his welcome remarks, Rt. Hon. Odey commended members of the EXCO for their commitment and dedication to work, which he emphasized, is showing from different sectors of the State’s development in line with the People First agenda of Governor Otu.
“The Deputy Governor also admonished EXCO members to live above board by maintaining high level integrity and decorum in line with the honourable and enviable position of the office they occupy in public trust. He further charged them to refrain from any action that is capable of tarnishing the image of the office and the administration as a whole.
“Rt. Hon. Odey stated that the State Governor has approved the extension of installation of street lights to some major towns across the State, adding that 200 street lights are being installed in Ogoja Metropolis while another 350 are to be installed between Ogoja and Yala Local Government Areas before the end of the year.
“After exhaustive consideration of the four (4) Memos brought before Council by members, EXCO approved and ratified the
following:
‘The commencement of procurement for the comprehensive renovation of buildings of the Cross River State Newspaper Corporation, provision of Water Borehole and overhead tank.
“The emergency intervention and rehabilitation of roads leading to headquarters of all Security Formation Premises in the State and other critical roads in the Calabar metropolis.
“The deployment of additional 350 Solar Street Lights to provide for better visibility between Ogoja and Yala Local Government Areas.
“The Rollout of 10,000 Solar Home System (SHS) in rural
communities across the 18 Local Government Areas of the State.
