Flood: Melaye Distributes Relief Materials Worth N10M, says FG, state Govt. must be sensitive to plights of victims

The former Senator representing Kogi West District of Kogi State, Dino Melaye on Wednesday distributed relief materials worth over N10million to people affected by the recent flood in Kogi and Lokoja Local government areas of the state.

Sen. Melaye while addressing the internationally displaced Persons, (IDPs) in their camps, in the two LGAs, assured all affected persons of his continued support, saying that if Government at all levels had done the needful after the 2012 flood in the state, their plights would have been reduced.

Sen. Melaye while Speaking with Newsmen after visiting flood affected victims in Kogi and Lokoja LGAs, described the plights of victims affected by flood in the state, noted that the failure of Government to put in place measures to mitigate the annual flooding of the River Niger and Benue was responsible for it’s frequent occurrence.

The Former Senator who represented Kogi West Senatorial District in the 8th Senate, said with or without political appointment he would continue to lend his support to the vulnerable and People who are less privileged, saying it is religious to always be your brothers keeper..

He said as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), the Party believed in meeting the needs of the people, described the flood that ravaged the areas this year as most unfortunate, saying that, it behooves on well meaning citizens to come to the aide of the victims.

Sen. Melaye described flood as a natural occurrence, but however maintained that with proactive measures in place, the plights of the people usually affected would have been mitigated and reduced losses.

Senator Melaye who said the gesture is his affection for the people whether in or out of office, promised to continue to give a helping hands to the people.

He said the gesture which cuts accross, has no Polical colouration, but out of his genuine love and compassion for a people devastated by flood, who he said have to a large extend lost there all, Particularly their means of livilihood.

Items presented by Sen. Melaye includes: Clothings, made up of wrappers and blankets, as well as bags of rice.
