The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, on Saturday commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) for an improvement on its arrangements as against the hitches recorded in the last presidential election. .
The governor who stated this shortly after casting his vote at his polling unit in Agassa – Ahache Okene – Eba ward said report reaching him indicated that the polls opened as scheduled across the state .
Recalled that it took the Governor over two hours before he could be accredited during the presidential election as a result of malfunctioning card reader.
The governor who arrived his polling unit at 8:30 am insisted on joining the queueing with two of his wives, Hajia Amina and Rashida and finally casted his vote at about 8:44am
Investigation also revealed that materials arrived early at the polling units across the state, though turnout for this election in some parts of the state was low.
The enthusiasm shown during the Presidential election was however absent in this election. The governorship election is not holding in Kogi.
Speaking also, the Special Adviser to the Governor, Engr Abubakar Ohere attributed the peaceful conduct of the election to be security measures put in place by Governor Yahaya Bello.
Engr Ohere who stated this shortly after casting his vote at his polling unit in Okene noted that there was significant improvements in INEC’s preparation for the election as against the problems experienced during the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.
He advised the people to be law abiding, and tasked the electoral body to sustain the good job.
