Kogi APC Attack on Natasha Akpoti’s Campaign, Callous, Show of Fear – DG

The Director General of Natasha Akpoti Campaign Organisation, Mohammed Sadiq, has described the resort of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi Central to the use of thuggery and constant attacks on the candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi Central, Barr. Natasha Akpoti as callous and a demonstration of fear of the acceptance of an imminent defeat.

 

Sadiq said, it is unfortunate that the youths refused to learn from the mistakes of the past, citing 2007 political violence in the district that claimed able bodied men and property worth millions of naira as a lesson to learn from.

 

He said, “It is clear that they are afraid of the general acceptance of Natasha Akpoti and the only means they can use is to result to thuggery to intimidate people, unknown to them they are only making people to love her more.

“At the end, there must be a winner and it’s our believe that they will all come together for the interest of Ebiraland and the so-called youths that made themselves thugs will be on the losing side, this premodial approach to politics should be avoided for the interest of peace in Kogi Central”.

Barely a week after alleged APC thugs attacked the SDP women supporters in Adavi local government, the thugs alleged to be working for the ruling party have renewed their attacks on Natasha Akpoti campaign train.

 

Recalled that thugs numbering about 20 allegedly invaded Natasha Akpoti Ward meeting on last Sunday at Alh. Badams’ compound, Inorere, Adavi local government and burnt the chairs meant for the meeting to ashes.

 

According to the source, the thugs came in two groups,  the first set who were about 16  came with matchets to attack the venue of the ward meeting and chased the supporters away before they destroyed all the plastic chairs and set thrm ablaze.

 

The source added that the second group of the thugs who were about four came with Siena bus and parked at the popular Inorere junction.

“They were fully masked and stationed their bus at the popular Inorere junction, they were with guns and their motives was to open fire on us if we repelled the first group.

“All these happened in front of four policemen given to us by the DPO when we wrote to him about the meeting and the rumour of APC thugs coming to attack us. It’s clear that the police are working for APC because they refused to do anything while the attack was going on.

 

“Today makes it three days after the attack, police said they couldn’t make any arrest because they went to where the thugs are hiding to knock and they refused to open the door for them, is this not laughable?” the source queried

 

It was gathered also that several attacks have been launched on Natasha Akpoti campaign, the only female candidate from the district, destroying her posters, banners, bill boards, arresting and intimidating her supporters and the recent one which resulted to the destruction and burning of plastic chairs during a ward meeting.

 

“Mid October, an attack was carried out on her campaign materials and destroyed her bill board stationed at the popular Inorere junction in Adavi local government.

“Bearly twenty four hours after the attack, similar one was coordinated at Eyika and Ihima in Okehi local government, destroying her posters and all her bill board in the local government.

 

“Relatedly, the supporters of the SDP candidate; Abdulazeez Abdulkareem, Abubakar Salami and Adamu Yusuf who mounted the banners were arrested by police in Okehi division allegedly on  orders from above. Another source claimed

 

Giving more insight on the attack, Sadiq, DG Natasha Campaign Organisation said, on the 28th of October 2018, at about 4:00AM, some police officers in company of some alleged APC thugs came to remove Natasha’s banner in Obeiba, Ihima, Okehi local government on the claim that the banner was mounted too close to the venue of the APC Obeiba ward 1 meeting.

 

He added that, “on 2nd, December 2018, some alleged APC armed thugs also attacked the women wing of the Natasha Campaign Organization.
