The Kogi State working committee of the Social Democratic Party, (SDP) has said that the state chapter of the party is in support of the national leadership of the party led by our its National chairman Chief Olu Falae GCRF, in its decisions, most especially having a working relationship with the Ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC) as regards to the presidential election.
In a statement signed by the Acting state chairman of the party, Alhaji Mouktar Atimah said that the decision does not however affect the structures of the party in the state., even as the party has suspended the former Police Affairs Minister, Humphrey Abba from the party indefinitely.
“The statement which reads in part said “I bring greeting from our great party to you all. It will interest you to note that our great party the Social Democratic Party(SDP) has just taken a painstaking decision at the just concluded NEC meeting.
” As the new acting State chairman l have the mandate to reposition the party in the state for the forth coming elections and to delivered the state to the party, which we have started by putting in place machinery to see that the party becomes the party to beat.
“This does not in anyway mean that we have collapsed our structures from the national to the ward level. We still maintain our identity and it should not be taken that we have merged with any political party, this decision is as a result of the current litigation crisis being faced by the party.
” wish to state that in Kogi state we have taken some decisions to enable us cross the hurdle of delivering in the next election. It is the party that is supreme to its members and not vice versa, it is in line with the above that the SWC, ably led by my humble self, wish to suspend the former Minister of Police Affairs in person of Mr Humphrey Abba from the party indefinitely according to relevant sections of our constitution until the report of the three (3) man committee setup to investigate allegations leveled against him for anti party activities emerges.
According to him, Humphrey Abba has failed to conform in his activities within the party, saying that rather, he has been working against the interest of the party for some time now, Most especially as we approach a point that can only be corrected in the next four (4) years.
“I also use this medium to warn all our members that indiscipline has no place in our new repositioned party, as we have zero tolerance to any distraction as we prepare to take over the Lugard house this year by the grace of God.
“We call on all our members to be steadfast in their belief for the party and its candidates in the forthcoming elections. The electorate should vote massively for the SDP in the forthcoming polls
