—–calls for security summit as a out
A Human Rights Activist, in Kogi State, Comrade Idris Miliki has called for collaborative efforts among stakeholders to end insecurity in Nigeria and Kogi State in particular.
In a statement by Miliki in Lokoja, the Activist noted that recent developments in the country and Kogi in relation to high insecurity of lives and property is worrisome which calls for serious concern.
Miliki maintained that all hands must be on deck across board to address this wanton destruction of lives and property, which he said was already threatening peaceful coexistence among the people, saying that there is need for a security summit to tackle the challenge.
The statement which reads in part said “Security is everybody responsibility, peace is a Perquisite for development in any society. The recent development across the country and in particular Kogi State is becoming worrisome and the need for every stakeholder to put hand across board in addressing the insecurity which have threatened peaceful coexistence among the people.
“Security and peace cannot be address in isolation, therefore the need for synergy among various professionals and stakeholders end insecurity that is currently affecting the life and properties of Kogi State.
“While we commend the effort put in place by both the security agents and the government of Kogi State in addressing these unfortunate development, however, issues of peace and security cannot be address in an ad-hoc manner.
“2019 in Nigeria is an elections year and is characterized with different development that sometimes threaten peace and security as elections evoke different interest, political, social and economic activities.
“Therefore, the need to put permanent machinery in place to address issue of peace in Kogi State, outside the conventional and the current security arrangement. We Therefore, call on Kogi State Government to put machinery in place for a creation of a permanent structure, such as, a board, institute or commission by urgently organise a peace and conflict conference that will lead to forwarding a Bill to the State House of Assembly that will create a permanent institution that will address Peace and Security in the State.
As in any human society, conflict is inevitable, either at community, sub-national, national, and international level there will always be trouble because of human interest and value. But the methodology deploy to manage the conflict towards a bearable proportion is the most significant.
“As at today, the Federal Government have an institution to address Peace and Conflict resolution in Nigeria, also Plateau have similar agency to address and intervene in their conflict situation. We need to have a permanent committee of people of proving integrity, which will train, transform, conduct research and compensate when and where necessary.
“We call on the people of Kogi State and Nigeria at large to learn to live together in peace, as what cannot be resolve in the board room will also not be resolve on the street.
