In an early hour raid on thursday, militia suspected to be Egburra Mosum have allegedly killed twenty Bassa Kwomu and razed down over fifty houses in Sheria near Oguma, in Bassa Local government area of Kogi state.
According to a source in the area, the bridge linking Oguma and Sheria was said to have been completely razed down by the said militias.
As at the time of this report Sheria village was said to have deserted completely due to sporadic shooting by the hoodlums.
A Sheria community leader who would not want his name in Print , decried the continued militancy of Egburra Mosum against the Bassa kwomus.
According to him, a peace meeting was called on January 8, 2019 at Aguma palace between the warring factions at Oguma, saying that the following day they attacked Bassa kwomu communities burning houses and killing the Bassa kwomus.
He further said only few weeks ago the Egburra traditional ruler went on Radio Kogi to be call for peaceful coexistence, but said they do no not know that the Egburra militia have concluded plans to attack Bassa communities.
The source added that two mobile armoured personnel carrier and two hilliux of army personnels have arrived Oguma to contain the situation
Meanwhile the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) William Aya who confirmed the incident said only one person was killed.
He there was sporadic gun shoots in the early hours of Thursday, saying that the Divisional police officer in the area promptly mobilized his men to the Area and has since brought the situation under control.
According to him the Kogi State police commissioner, CP Hakeem Busari has also ordered a re-enforcement to help bring the crisis under control.
He however said calm has returned to the Area, saying that efforts are on to arrest the perpetrators of the violence with a view to bring them to justice.
Aya called on the people of the area to go about their normal activities, saying that no effort would be spared to ensure peace in the area and Kogi State as a whole.
