The University of Jos, Alumni Association, Kogi State chapter has said that its members can only be encouraged to work harder to project the Image of their Alma mata, if their modest efforts are recognized
The Chairman of the Kogi State chapter of the Association, Oladipo Makakese Bayode stated this during a Special dinner organized in honour of three of their members who have distinguished themselves in their fields of endeavours.
According to the Chairman, “these are the members who by divine grace providence, dedication and hard work were recently appointed into various positions of responsibility.”
Bayode who quoted the words of Chief Obafemi Awolowo of blessed memory that “generation who won’t celebrate heroes would not produce heroes”, noted that this has prompted the present executive members of the Association to always celebrate their members as a way of encouraging and appreciating God for his benevolence in their lives.
The beneficiaries are: the current Deputy Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Lokoja, Professor Makanjula Osagbemi, the Rector, Federal Polytechnic Idah, Dr. David Danjuma Baba and the Registrar, Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Mr Mathew Ocholi.
“Today’s dinner is indeed special because it is an avenue to celebrate great men who are in the academic world whose hand rest the responsibility to raise future leaders”, he said.
The Chairman added that mentorship and education training have remain one of the greatest challenge in the leadership process in Nigeria ,saying that it is not out of place ‘if we gather here to celebrate great minds who are moulding the future of the country”.
The National President of University of Jos Alumni Association, Mr. Idris Yakubu commended the Kogi State Chapter of the Association for recognising their members with this great honour.
The National President who was represented by the Deputy National President, Pastor Nuhu Sani said the gesture will continue to promote peace and unity among the members, stressing this will encourage the younger ones to do better in their various fields of endeavour.
Sani who also delivered the message of the Vice Chancellor of University of Jos, Professor, Seddi S. Maimako lauded the awardees, urging them to continue to promote the name of their alma mata.
Maimako noted that the entire University community felicitates with the recipients and lauded Kogi State Alumni Association for the wonderful things they are doing to promote the name of the University.
