The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja, (FUL), Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, has appealed to President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Visitor to the ivory tower, to consider the removal of federal universities from the single treasury
Account, (TSA), to fast track development.
Professor Olayemi Akinwumi made the appeal on Monday at Felele campus, Lokoja Kogi state during the pre-convocation press briefing for the commencement of the combined 6th and 7th convocation ceremony slated for October 16th to 22nd , 2023.
He noted that when this is done the universities will become fully autonomous, saying that university managements would be able to independently carry out their employments to fill staff gaps and carry out more developmental projects in their various institutions.
The VC added that the university during the combine convocation ceremony will be launching an endowment fund and solicited the support and contributions of well meaning Nigerians to achieve the quest of the institution in putting physical structures in place.
He assured the public that fund generated from the endowment fund will be judiciously and efficiently utilized for the continued development of the university.
Professor Akinwumi, also appealed to politicians and well meaning individuals in Kogi state to assist the institution in the area of infrastructure development.
“The projects for endowment include; 500 seated capacity lecture theatre, 500 bed space capacity for student hostel, research laboratory building and equipment, engineering workshop, 400 capacity bed space hostel for medical students, lecture hall for college of health science.
“Others are 500 capacity auditorium, faculty of law library, moot court for faculty of law, 500 capacity multipurpose hall/assembly hall and mass communication building” he stated.
Speaking on the 6th and 7th convocation ceremony, the Vice Chancellor revealed that a total of 2,511 graduands will be conferred with first degrees, 99 Master degree while 128 will also be conferred with postgraduate diploma.
Professor Akinwumi further disclosed that Honorary Degrees would be conferred on eminent personalities that have contributed to the development of the nation just as he congratulated the graduating students of the two sets on their academic feat and urged them to be good ambassador of the university.
