The government of Cross River State has reiterated its earlier announcement on the guidelines for refuse disposal which were designed by the state Governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, in his deliberate attempt to restore the clean and green status of Calabar metropolis and the state in general.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to Governor Otu on General Duties, Barrister Ekpenyong Akiba, residents were reminded that the regulations guiding refuse disposal as earlier released are still in force.
Disclosing that enforcement agents will be strategically positioned to arrest and prosecute defaulters, the state government also announced that the activities of scavengers have been totally banned as they “pose serious security concern for citizens.”
Barrister Akiba’s statement reads: “This is to reiterate the State government’s earlier announcement on regulations guiding refuse disposal within the Calabar metropolis. For the avoidance of doubt, the hours of 6pm to 10pm everyday is slated for refuse disposal.
“Please note that enforcement agents will be stationed at strategic refuse points to apprehend and prosecute defaulters.
“Similarly, the government has put a total ban on all refuse scavengers as their activities pose serious security concern for citizens. Those responsible are to desist forthwith as security agents have been mandated to arrest and prosecute perpetrators.”
