Governor Yahaya Bello freezes state, LG accounts, halts payments of imprests to ministries

Ahead of the 27 January , 2024 terminal date of Governor Yahaya Bello”s administration, he has directed that all Kogi government’s state and local government accounts be frozen with immediate effect.

According to the press statement issued by the Commissioner for Finance, Asiwaju Asiru Idris, said that the Governor outlines a strict prohibition on any payments or imprests from any state and local government accounts.

He said the directive also nullifies all “Standing Orders and Investment Instructions” immediately.

The commissioner further noted that the blanket freeze which applies to Kogi State and Local Government Accounts takes effect from Thursday, November 23, 2023.

It was gathered that the Governor took the decision to halt financial transaction due to the winding down of his administration.

Governor Yahaya Bello’s tenure will come to an end by January 27, 2024, while the Governor-Elect, Ahmed Usman Ododo will be sworn in as the next Executive Governor of kogi state.
