The senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Moro, on Thursday bagged Excellence Award in Otukpo, Benue State.

This was contained in a report by the senator’s media assistant, Onjefu Ajeibi.

The award, which is in recognition of the senator’s philanthropic legacies, developmental strides, commitment to the advancement and wellbeing of Nigerians and selfless service to humanity, was presented to him by the National Association of Nigerian Students (Joint Campus Council, JCC), Benue State Axis.

Speaking on behalf of the students body, the Chairman, Comr. Igbudu Victor Okita, said the selection of Senator Moro for the recognition was as a result of his immense contribution to infrastructural development in Benue South, his contribution to the growth and development of students unionism and his efforts in youth empowerment.

He said they believed so much in him and wished him well in the Senate.

In his response, Senator Moro thanked the students for finding him worthy of the recognition. He said his incursion into politics was not for wealth accumulation but to make a difference, which was why, according to him, he does everything humanly possible to attend to the needs of his people at all times.

The Senator hinted on his recent efforts on the Otukpo township road, to make it passable for the people during the festive period.

He lamented the slow pace of works on the road by Rockbridge Company despite his efforts and those of other notable citizens of Benue South who have been engaging the Federal Ministry of Works. He said he was aware that a substantial sum of money had been paid to the company for the job and also aware that there’s an outstanding, which he said was not enough reason to keep the people in the current predicament that they face on that road.

He assured that he would continue to follow up on the project until it’s executed, stating that he had taken it upon himself to continue to make it passable for his people.

His words:
“I want to sincerely thank you for recognizing my modest contribution to societal growth. As long as I remain in public service, I will re-commit myself all the time to the service of humanity.

“As leaders of tomorrow that you are, strive to develop yourselves mentally, academically and physically, so that you can be fit for the tasks ahead.

“I promise to support you always within the limit of available resources for the actualization of your personal and collective aspirations.

“I enjoin you to be very careful with the current trend of fake news. Let it form part of your responsibility to sensitize fellow youths on the inherent danger of fake news, to know what’s correct and what’s incorrect; what’s fake and what’s real. It’s a very dangerous trend that we must join hands together to halt.

“Thank you very much for coming. I invite you to come join hands with me so that we build the Benue South of our dream.”

Other members of the delegation included the Vice Chairman, Okwuma Harriet; Assistant General Secretary, Akeyi Samuel; SSA on protocol, Fatima Garba; and SSA on public hearing, Adikwu Blessing.
